For those of you familiar with 'The Lord of the Rings', the story and graphics are based on the recent film trilogy.
The
graphics are amazing and the gameplay is relentless. The attacks from
the growing numbers of enemy, as you progress, just don't let up.
The
images, visuals and sounds are impressive enough on my poxy pre-90's
television, but I imagine the whole experience to be even more
impressive on a widescreen or LCD display and surround sound system.
After
the initial first two levels, the game opens up, and you can play each
mission as either Aragorn, Legolas or Gimli. The aim is to progress
through each level, of which there are around 12, as you accrue mission
experience and can purchase upgrades. The upgrades consist of
increasingly more powerful and deadly attack modes, combos and weapons.
As
your mission experience increases, so you unlock more advanced levels
of experience before you save, where you can purchase upgrades. Once
you get to Level 10, you can go head to head with the Tower of Orthanc
level, consisting of 20 platforms of increasing difficulty, as you work
your way up to the top of the tower of Orthanc.
Once completed,
the game unlocks around 5 different cheat codes which give you a range
of different advantages over your enemies.
The enemies are well thought out and faithful to the film/book. You go up against Cave Trolls, Orcs and Urak-hai.
A lot of time and trouble has gone into this game, and, from what I've read, the sequel, 'The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King' game, is just as excellent.
For
a change, this is a movie spin-off that is actually as good as the it's
source material, and if you've seen the films, you'll unbderstand that
is quite an achievement.
